Get to know Jake

Hello, my name is Jake and I am the owner of Down Home Karaoke & DJ. Now what is it about me that is different from everyone else out there? That is a very good question. Well one thing I guess would be I am sitting here and writing about myself on my webpage. I am doing this in first person and not third person like most web pages do :) When I try and book your wedding or venue I do it with a personal email. Why do I do that? Well so that you can see part of my personality. Personality is the BIGGEST factor of your DJ. They have no personality then you are going to have one very boring show.

I am sorry I do not have a picture of myself on here yet but it will go up at the top somewhere haha. I am usually the one behind the camera when taking pictures at weddings to put on the web page here.

Here are a few comments or questions I have received from emails. I see these to be important :)

Well, I do have one question for you.

We are doing our ceremony and reception in one place but they are in different rooms.  I was wondering if you would be able to do the ceremony music as well.  We are only having a short break between the ceremony and reception (20-30 minutes) and I don't know if it will be a problem as far as having the extra equipment or moving the equipment from room to room.

Also, would it be you personally being our DJ or would it be an employee of yours?

Personally, I have heard great things about you and your services and right now it is between you and one other company (waiting on a phone call) but you have shown me just in this email how great you are, fast response, very courteous, makes me feel very confident in you :)

Thanks!
T-

Q. Biggest question I always hear is if I will be the DJ or if an employee will be.

A. I am always the personal DJ. I have heard so many problems when it comes to bigger companies and sending out bad DJ's. I want everyone to know that I do every show personally. You are going to get my many years of experience of being a KJ and DJ. Only problem with this is my company can only do one show per day so that means book me as fast as you can to make sure you get your date :)

Hi again, I was looking through the contract and had a few more questions.  It says you need an 8x10' table, and I was wondering if that was two tables put together or what that is.  Also I was looking at the hours and wondered how long it takes to set up and take down, as we only have  the building until midnight, and if those hours are included in the price.
 Thanks,
E-

A. Take down and setup are not charged for. That is always in the price. If your reception is from 7PM to 12AM I play from 7PM to 12AM. I setup before the start of your reception and I rip down after the reception is over. I also try to be setup at least 1 hour before the start of your event. That gives me time to test my equipment to give the best sound and to adjust my lighting to give the best lighting effects.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for your prompt response!  It sounds like you really know what you are doing and have the equipment to do it!  I am interested in setting up a meeting with you to discuss your services further.  I have the unfortunate task of planning a wedding in Ankeny (my home town), but I live in Saint Paul, MN.  That makes things a little difficult!  I am sure I will be down in Ankeny within the next month or so to continue making arrangements.

A couple questions:

First of all, are you currently available on (a date in 2007 I hid this date from all of you haha :p), if we decide to use your service?  Our wedding reception will be from 7pm-midnight, but I am not sure when we would have the music start.
Second, my fiancé and I are huge music fans (I am a musician myself), and we have a lot of "favorites" that we will want played at the reception.  I am sure your collection is extensive, but can we also give you specific music to play?  We have some favorites that most people wouldn't have in their collection (a lot of indie stuff).  That may seem like a silly question, but I've never hired a dj/kj before, so I don't know how it all works!  I just want my reception to be a stellar good time!

Thanks, S

A. You can always give me music to play. Burn it to a CD and I can play it. I will then return your CD after the show and it also makes for a great memory or keepsake keeping that burnt CD :) Also I will try my best to try and get together with you to setup your reception. If it has to be done through emails or over the phone that can also be done. The more time the DJ and couple have to work on the reception the better it will turn out :)

I will work with you as much as I can. I will be personal with you and you will not have to deal with a recording or personal assistant. ALL my prices are on my pricing page and you do not have to contact me to find them out!!! I will not hide my prices from you because I want you to see how low my prices are and to be able to figure how much your event will be before you contact me. I am your personal DJ and you do not have to worry about some Tom, Dick, or Harry from off the street being your DJ. I try and keep my prices down and keep my quality through the roof. I want to be the thorn in the statement "You get what you pay for" because I do not think you need to pay thousands of dollars to get a quality DJ.

This is my statement and I stand behind it 100% :)
